Frequently Asked Questions

R-134a is used in automotive AC (cars and buses), commercial refrigeration (food coolers, display cabinets, vending machines), domestic refrigerators, industrial chilling processes, and refrigerated transport. It is also a constituent in R-407 series blends used in commercial HVAC.

No. R-134a cannot be used as a drop-in replacement for other refrigerants in existing systems. It must only be used in equipment specifically designed and rated for R-134a.

Yes. R-134a is classified A1, meaning it is non-toxic and non-flammable under normal conditions. Standard refrigerant handling practices including appropriate PPE and adequate ventilation apply.

R-134a has an Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) of zero. It was introduced globally to replace R-12, which carried a high ODP under the Montreal Protocol.

Our R-134a refrigerant price depends on cylinder size, order volume, and delivery location. Fill in the enquiry form or email us at customercare@dewgas.com for a current quote. We respond within one business day.

Scanning the QR code on any of our R-134a cylinders opens the Certificate of Analysis for that specific cylinder, showing the COA date, batch number, full inspection results (purity, moisture, evaporation residue, acid content, non-condensable gas, and appearance), cylinder weight details, AHRI 700 compliance confirmation, and our filling facility details.

Our R-134a is available in 10 kg small cylinders, 62 kg big cylinders, 825 kg tonners, 20,000 kg ISO tanks, and 450 g disposable cans. Contact us for bulk enquiries.

We supply R-134a to automotive manufacturers, OEMs, distributors, service dealers, and HVAC contractors. Fill in the enquiry form or email customercare@dewgas.com to discuss supply terms and pricing.

R-134a Refrigerant Gas: The HFC Powering India’s Automotive AC & Commercial Cold Chain

R-134a (1,1,1,2-Tetrafluoroethane, CF3CH2F) is a single-component HFC refrigerant with zero ozone depletion potential and an A1 safety classification, making it non-toxic and non-flammable under normal handling conditions. Introduced to replace ozone-depleting R-12 under the Montreal Protocol, R-134a has since become the standard refrigerant in automotive air conditioning globally and remains the OEM-specified choice for car and bus AC systems across India.

Beyond automotive, R-134a is central to India’s commercial refrigeration infrastructure, running food coolers, vending machines, display cabinets, medical freezers, and refrigerated transport across the country. It is also a constituent in several R-407 series blends used in commercial HVAC. As India’s cold chain expands to meet food safety and logistics targets, the availability of high-purity r134a refrigerant gas remains a critical requirement for manufacturers, fleet operators, and service technicians alike.

Responsible Recovery & Disposal of R-134a

While R-134a is A1 classified and safe to handle under normal conditions, it should never be vented to atmosphere. With a GWP of 1430, uncontrolled release contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and is inconsistent with India’s climate commitments under the Kigali Amendment. We recommend using certified refrigerant recovery equipment to reclaim R-134a from systems before servicing or decommissioning. Recovered refrigerant should be returned to an authorised reclaimer or collected through our cylinder return programme. Responsible handling at end-of-life is as important as purity at point of use.

Where R-134a Refrigerant Gas is Used

Automotive Air Conditioning

The primary automotive refrigerant gas for car and bus AC systems across India. R-134a has been the OEM-specified refrigerant for passenger vehicles since the phase-out of R-12 and continues to power millions of vehicles on Indian roads today.

Commercial Refrigeration

Used in food coolers, vending machines, supermarket display cabinets, and large commercial refrigerators. R-134a’s stability and A1 safety classification make it a dependable choice across food retail and cold storage applications.

Industrial Refrigeration

Specified in industrial chilling processes, medical freezers, and process cooling systems where a stable, non-flammable high-temperature refrigerant is required. Suitable for a wide range of chilling and process applications.

Domestic Refrigeration

Used in household refrigerators and freezers across India. R-134a’s non-flammable A1 classification and zero ODP have made it a widely adopted domestic refrigerant for OEMs and aftermarket service.

Transport Refrigeration

Specified for refrigerated trucks and vans carrying temperature-sensitive cargo across India’s growing cold chain logistics network. R-134a’s high-temperature performance suits the variable ambient conditions across Indian geographies.

Also Used as a Blend Component

R-134a is a constituent in R-407 series blends used in commercial HVAC systems, extending demand for high-purity r134a refrigerant gas into OEM blending and manufacturing operations beyond direct end-use.
