R-600a is classified A3 — highly flammable. It must be handled using equipment specifically rated for hydrocarbon refrigerants, with proper attention to ignition sources, ventilation, and charge quantities. Standard HFC charging and recovery equipment must not be used. Always follow current health and safety regulations and manufacturer guidelines when handling A3 refrigerants.
Yes. Unlike zeotropic blends, R-600a is a single-component refrigerant and can be charged from either the liquid or the vapour phase. Service technicians should follow the equipment manufacturer's charging instructions and use HC-rated charging equipment.
R-600a requires a semi-synthetic or mineral/alkylbenzene (AB) blend oil, or PAO. Several compressor oil types are compatible with R-600a — in most cases, an oil change is not required when servicing existing R-600a equipment. Refer to the original equipment manufacturer's guidance for specific lubricant recommendations.

Its thermodynamic properties — particularly its high critical temperature of 134.7°C and low boiling point of −11.75°C — make it well-suited to the high-temperature refrigeration cycle used in household appliances. Domestic Refrigerators and Freezers
