Inside this documentDeveloped for modern residential and commercial air conditioning systems, delivering efficient cooling for everyday comfort applications.
Trusted across automotive air conditioning, commercial refrigeration, and medium-temperature cooling applications requiring reliable performance.
A natural refrigerant suited for commercial refrigeration, bottle coolers, display cabinets, heat pumps, and other energy-conscious cooling applications.
R-600a is refrigerant-grade isobutane (2-Methyl Propane) — a natural single-component hydrocarbon refrigerant with a GWP of 3 and zero ODP. Classified A3 (flammable), it is the primary refrigerant used in domestic fridges, freezers, drink dispensers, and light commercial display units globally.
R-600a is used in domestic refrigerators and freezers, light commercial refrigeration units, drink dispensers, and standalone display coolers. It is a replacement for R-12 and R-134a in high-temperature refrigeration applications.
R-600a is classified A3 — highly flammable. It must be handled using equipment specifically rated for hydrocarbon refrigerants, with proper attention to ignition sources, ventilation, and charge quantities. Standard HFC charging and recovery equipment must not be used. Always follow current health and safety regulations and manufacturer guidelines when handling A3 refrigerants.
Yes. Unlike zeotropic blends, R-600a is a single-component refrigerant and can be charged from either the liquid or the vapour phase. Service technicians should follow the equipment manufacturer's charging instructions and use HC-rated charging equipment.
R-600a requires a semi-synthetic or mineral/alkylbenzene (AB) blend oil, or PAO. Several compressor oil types are compatible with R-600a — in most cases, an oil change is not required when servicing existing R-600a equipment. Refer to the original equipment manufacturer's guidance for specific lubricant recommendations.

R-600a is refrigerant-grade isobutane (2-Methyl Propane) — a single-component natural hydrocarbon with a GWP of just 3 and zero ozone depletion potential. Classified A3 (flammable), R-600a was developed as a replacement for R-12 and R-134a in domestic and light commercial refrigeration applications where manufacturers and operators are seeking to dramatically reduce the global warming footprint of their equipment.
R-600a is the refrigerant of choice for domestic fridges, freezers, drink dispensers, and standalone display units. Its thermodynamic properties — particularly its high critical temperature of 134.7°C and low boiling point of −11.75°C — make it well-suited to the high-temperature refrigeration cycle used in household appliances. Several compressor oil types are compatible with R-600a (typically a semi-synthetic or a mineral/alkylbenzene blend), which means oil changes are generally not required when servicing existing R-600a systems. R-600a can also be charged from either the liquid or vapour phase, giving service technicians flexibility in the field. Our R-600a is AHRI 700 certified and QR-verified at every cylinder.
R-600a carries an ASHRAE A3 safety classification — highly flammable. We handle it under strict protocols across both our manufacturing facilities.
Dedicated Filling Zones
R-600a is filled in designated hazardous-area zones with explosion-proof equipment, gas detection, and emergency shutdown systems.
No Ignition Sources
Strict no-ignition-source controls within the filling and storage areas — all equipment is ATEX / IECEx rated.
Certified Recovery
Recovery and reclaiming operations use HC-rated equipment operated by trained and certified technicians only.
When purchasing R-600a from us, we recommend ensuring that your team uses only charging and recovery equipment that is specifically rated for hydrocarbon refrigerants. Standard HFC equipment must not be used with A3 refrigerants.
Domestic Refrigerators and Freezers
R-600a is the factory-filled refrigerant in the vast majority of new domestic refrigerators and freezers manufactured globally. Its low GWP and thermodynamic efficiency at high-temperature refrigeration conditions make it the natural hydrocarbon of choice for household appliance OEMs. It is increasingly the default refrigerant in domestic white goods across India.
Light Commercial Refrigeration Units
Used in light commercial refrigeration units including commercial refrigerator/freezers in convenience stores, cafés, restaurants, and food service environments. R-600a’s low charge quantities (typically under 150 g per unit) reduce flammability risk and comply with charge-size regulations for A3 refrigerants in commercial settings.
Drink Dispensers
Specified for cold drink dispensers and vending machines. R-600a’s efficiency in the high-temperature refrigeration cycle translates to lower energy consumption in drink dispenser applications, making it increasingly preferred by manufacturers targeting energy-efficiency ratings.
Standalone Display Units
Used in standalone open and closed display coolers in retail and food service environments. R-600a’s near-zero GWP makes it the preferred refrigerant for display unit OEMs and operators subject to environmental or sustainability reporting requirements.
